University Students Under Pressure: The Consequences of Inflation

By Giani Siti Azhara (1209624109)

Today, many people are struggling to manage their finances due to ongoing global inflation. In Indonesia, this issue affects various sectors, including education. University students are among those most impacted, especially those who live far from home. Managing daily expenses such as transportation, food, and tuition is already challenging, and inflation makes it even harder for them to stand on their feet while pursuing their studies.

This issue can harm both their physical and mental health. For lower-income students, this financial burden may lead to delayed education or dropping out, because they may choose to work part-time while still attending university. Consequently, this situation widens the gap in access to higher education. To address this, stronger government support and more flexible options provided by universities are essential to help students continue their education despite the economic challenges they currently face.
